First off I live in NW, Ontario Canada and I can't seem to find any info on what i'm looking for, maybe you fine people can help me :)

So I work for a large construction company and I made an Employment Insurance claim for the winter, thing is my employer sent in a second ROE which was a revised version. They "forgot" to mark it as amended which caused EI to make a $6400 over-payment over the winter.

Nobody wants to take responsibility for what happened and now i'm stuck with such a nice large bill! I'm just wondering what I can do from here. Is it even viable to seek a lawyer or am I basically screwed and have to suck it up?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Talk to Service Canada or CRA about what to do. Do not spend the money, whatever you do - you might have to give it back, or you might have to pay tax on it. Store it somewhere until you figure out what's up. Any decent tax accountant should know what to do.
