Culinary school does not make you a chef.

When you turn 15-16 you will be old enough to get a job in a restaurant washing dishes. (If you cannot cut it as a dishwasher you will never make it in the restaurant industry.) When you turn 15-16 walk into the nicest restaurant in your area and ask to speak with the Chef or Kitchen Manager. Tell them you would like to learn about the restaurant business. Offer to work for a day or a week for free so you can see what life is really like at a restaurant.

Once you get a job work your way up the ladder. 99.9% of chefs in the world work their way up from the bottom. From a dishwasher move to a prep cook then a line cook. Bug your managers to teach you about the budgets, inventory and ordering. After 10 - 15 years you might just have the experience to find a business partner and get a loan to open your own restaurant.

It's all about who you know, first and foremost.. Well, unless you have a boat load of money. The easiest way is just to work, honestly. Become a line cook, work your way through other restaurants, trying to at least work any position you can. Somewhere along the way you will gain some kind of perspective as to how you think a restaurant should be run. By then, your experience should eventually land you a manager title. After that: find some rich people, write up a proposal, hope they will invest. There's no set path, but I say experience trumps college any day, especially in the restaurant department.

there are three ways to go on that, one is to go to cooking school and become a chef, have a specialty then open a restaurant after you have enough money from your job, and use your specialty to bring in customers.

the second way is to go to community college and get a 2-year AA in Business Administration and work as a burger flipper, then take other restaurant jobs making food and then get yourself one of those restaurants on wheels.

The third way is to go to community college and get a 2-year AA in Business Administration and then take that to a four-year college and graduate there. Work your way thru college via working for MacDonalds, become a manager at different places and then buy a franchise in a hotel.

As soon as you can, get a job in a restaurant to learn all you can about them.
