Ok, so I currently work in retail, and I hate it. I applied for a job at a new place that's opening up by my house, and I think I'm gonna get hired. It's a server position.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the fact that since most of a server's paycheck is based on tips, since their hourly pay is pretty low, I won't be able to make enough to pay the few bills I have.

Will the tips really make up for how low the actual paycheck is, and maybe even more than a job where you don't get tips?

Tips can be good if you are always chipper , able to read the minds of the customers and grovel like some fool . People now days give less than used to percentage wise of the bill and most people are so used to McDonalds and Burgerking service that tipping is not thought of much anymore. For example I served recently a table of 4 and the bill was close to $220.00 , a 15% tip would have been 33.00 a 20 % tip would be $44.00 . I got $ 20.00 , now don't get me wrong , I appreciated it as I have received even less from people , but boy I busted my BUTT on that table , was very pleasant and prompt . And even was a little clairvoyant also . But people are getting cheaper as time goes on . On the other hand my best tip almost 20 years ago now was a $100.00 for a $20.00 bar tab . And you can not tell tippers by how they look as that guy was a biker and guys in fine suits think they deserve something and rarely tip good . So buddy take some advice go into the kitchen and at least you will not have to deal with John Q. Public.
